Desires are inborn. They are our nature. If we fulfill desires, we feel fulfilled, relaxed and complete. With longings, the moment we fulfill them, we feel empty, incomplete. This is the difference between desire and longing.
Desire gives us fulfillment, completion. Longing gives us emptiness, incompletion
To open up all the samskaras (patterns), all the unfulfilled desires, guilt.
Desire means I should live like this in future; guilt means I should have lived like that in the past. I should live like this is desire; I should have lived like that in the past is guilt.
Both are same energy; when it travels towards the future, it is desire; when it travels towards the past, it is guilt.
Desire is not wrong. Having so much of desires, you have never time to fulfil even one desire is wrong. Desire to have a cup of coffee is not wrong. But by the time coffee is ready, you are already worried about having a buttermilk.
By the time buttermilk is ready. you have already started worrying about the nectar. But finally from the morning till night you never drank anything. That is what is wrong.
Your life is running only in this way. Project plan, project plan, project plan , project plan and dead line for what. for project to die. But never ever. Never ever you enjoy, live. Yeyati could not relax from his life because he never enjoyed. By that time he is enjoying something in his life, his mind is already there in something else. By the time he is enjoying something else, his mind is there something else. Continuously moving, Never living.
During student life, a person feels that he will be happy when he gets a job. Once he gets a job, he feels that he will be happy when he gets married. After marriage he feels that he will be happy only when he gets children. Like this, man runs after each desire thinking that he will be happy only when that desire gets fulfilled.
When he runs to the end of his life, he realizes that none of his desires really gives him true happiness. Such a man is an anubhavan. An anubuthivan on the other hand clearly understands from his first desire that no desire when fulfilled will give him true happiness; There lies the difference.
Filling your being is the right job of the Master than fulfilling your desires. Fulfilling your desires are too small than filling your being. A Real Master fills your being
The qualities of life are:
- Life can heal your body at this moment.
- Life has the capacity to make any of your desire into reality. Any desire - just it can be made into reality.
Note: Any desire not fulfilled remains in your inner system as karma and will again and again push you to fulfill itself.
You do not manifest what you desire, but you manifest what you believe. You manifest what you perceive, you manifest what you cognize. If you cognize struggle as you, if you believe you as a struggle, you will manifest only that. If you believe, if you cognize , if you perceive, you as the ups and downs you will manifest only that in your life. So the first basic truth, so if you perceive yourself as a struggle, you will manifest only that.
Completion, Enlightenment, stress-free, beautiful, blissful content life, but you perceive you are not qualified for that, or that is not going to happen for you, you are not capable of taking responsibility for that. Unfortunately you manifest what you perceive, not what you desire.
Now this gap, struggle is what is called incompletions, mental patterns.
For example: I really desire wealth. But deep down you believe wealthy people are arrogant people, bad people they do lot of wrong things, if you believe wealthy people are arrogant, bad wrong, they do many wrong things, they exploit others, if you have that belief how are you going to manifest wealth in your life?
Your reality is made out of the stuff your perception, cognition are made out of. Your desire is not the material out of which your reality is made. Your perception is the material out if which your reality is made.
You desire wealth but you believe its almost impossible for you, various reasons. The fight which goes on between your desire and belief is mental patterns.
When the completion starts happening, your perception, your beliefs, become your desires. Your desire and your belief becoming one, is what is called as Completion. Then simply you start manifesting, what you want to manifest.
Desire without object is enlightenment. When you have some strong desire with object, you work towards that object. But if the object is removed the same strong pull, desire and energy - the same energy, turns towards itself and you realize yourself. When Masters say that there is nothing called enlightenment, they are breaking our goal-oriented mind and they are bringing us to this present moment.
Sealing of desires cannot be done. Suppression will only lead to perversion and other difficulties. Transformation is the only possibility; suppression cannot be done. Whether it is related to sense-enjoyment or name and fame or anything, the more you suppress, the more you poison your system. All you can do is to transform the desires. If want this to happen, enter into meditation and let your energies be transformed.
Except transformation, there is no other way to escape from desires. Just divert the energy and let it become pure. When you transform you will have the pure desire without it being directed towards any object. Desire without object is energy. When your energy is attached to an object, it becomes desire and when the desire is detached from the object it becomes energy.
That is why in Vedic systems, we call desire as icchha shakthi (Will Power) or desire energy. As long as there is no object, it leads you to bliss. When there is an object, it leads you to bondage. You can only transform or purify it through meditation, never suppress it which only leads to more problems.
When man ponders over the pleasures of the senses, there arises an association with it; means you start associating yourself with it. From association arises the desire, from desire the desire turns into anger, from anger arises delusion unconsciousness; from the delusion unconsciousness makes the mind unsteady. The destruction of understanding happen in an unsteady mind and the destroyed understanding annihilates the person.
When you mature, your desires do mature. If you decide that your desires should not get matured, you stop your maturity. You stop your maturity. Maturity of the desires and fears is what is called Renunciation. Renunciation is not denunciation. In Hindu tradition, Vairāgya is not arāgya. Virāgā is not arāgā. Renunciation is not denunciation. Maturity getting added to your desires and fears.
With surrender, the first thing you will experience is, your desires and fears will get matured. End, they will completely disappear, that is different – that is the ultimate experience. But the moment you even start practicing surrender, your desires and fears will start getting matured
Celebrate your desires getting matured. Celebrate your fears getting matured. Celebrate your anxieties getting matured. Celebrate your decisions getting matured. Celebrate your vision getting matured, you will celebrate Surrender; because in real surrender, spiritual surrender, the worm is becoming butterfly
In Sanskrit we have the word called viraga which means going beyond attachment or vairaagya. Raga means attachment, araga means detachment, viraga means going beyond attachment or detachment; going beyond desires and desirelessness.
When some desire comes, consider it then suddenly quit. Suddenly unclutch and experience the truth in you.
This is a very strong truth, a very profound statement. He says directly,' whenever desire arises in you, consider it'. He means,' just see, don't judge'. He is simply asking you to be an unbiased witness, an observer and not to judge whether something is right or wrong. If you judge something as wrong you will not be able to drop the idea or desire.
Here Bhagavān Paramaśiva is saying, 'suddenly uncluth from it'; disconnect from the desire. See, when you filled with some desire and you suddenly disconnect, you will experience a new inner space, an empty space, that inner space which is ready to experience your own reality.
First thing we have to understand is that there is no 'you' in 'you'. Whatever you understand or experience or feel as you in you is just some body's reflection in you. If it stays there for a long time you believe it is you and you are possessed by that identity.
We pick some identity from mom, some desires from being mom, some desires from being dad and some from friends and society. None of these desires are desires of our own. Whatever we have more, we create our identity out of it.
We create a broom of our identity by collecting broom sticks of desires and identity from others. We become imaginary images of others. We tie our broom with a silk thread. Silk thread is our decision making capacity. We make choices based on our desire which leads to suffering. Any choice will only lead to suffering. When we accept the happening the desire, choice and suffering all disappears
To make the children understand that we are the mixture of desires and identities of others.
- What do we have to understand by you?
- Do we have some body's reflection on us?
- What are the identities / desire you picked from your mom?
- What are the identities / desire you picked from your dad?
- What are the identities / desire you picked from your friends?
- What are the identities/ desire you picked from your relatives?
- How do we lose the identity? Why choosing is suffering?
MATERIALS NEEDED
- o Paper
- o Pencil (or) Sketch
PROCEDURE
Explain to the children about wants and needs. Encourage each child to draw pictures about their wants and needs. Each child gets the turn to talk about what are their needs and wants.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- o Color sketch pens
- o Ice cream sticks
For example:
I like green because my father's favorite color is green.
I hate apple because my mom did not like it.
I like Volley ball because my brother is a volley ball champion.
Ask each child to write their desires on separate ice cream sticks. Then tie each child's ice cream sticks together with the "ribbon of choice".
Interpretation: Explain to the children that none of their desires are their own desires. We collect desires from others and then make our broom of desires.
