Activity 2 - Cups of Overflowing Love:
Material required:
- Disposable cups (1 per child)
- Permanent marker
- Water (food colouring powder if required)
Preparation:
Get all the materials together and have the children gather in a circle after discussion time.
Discussion:
Give an illustration on how we can be filled with love and overflow onto others.
First take a cup and demonstrate how the cup represents a person, and the water is love. Add other cups on top of the first cup and when the water of love is poured on the first cup, it spills over to the others as it starts overflowing!
Each child can use the permanent marker to write their name on a cup and take turns to realize the concept of sharing love by being filled-up, and then letting it overflow while sharing it with their friends.
Introduction:
Review the previous topic and ask questions related to it. Introduce them to the various types of love.
Goals:
Make the children aware of various types of love and how we express them.
Click:
Physical love, mental love, emotional love, spiritual love and causeless love.
About the topic:
Love is feeling connected with others, love is being compassionate to everybody. We can easily love others when you feel that person is also a part of you. When we can be compassionate and help others, it is then when we feel what happened to them also happens to us.
Talk about the various types of love:
Physical love: A mother's love for her baby. A mother does not feel tired of taking care of her baby because of her overflowing love for her baby.
Mental love - love for friends, pets and parental love. They love us as we are and that gives us emotional comfort.
Emotional love - love towards a pet; caring for a pet animal releases a hormone in us that allows us to live at ease with our body. It reduces the chances of getting diseases and mental disorders and even increases our life span. Emotional love brings in a fulfillment to one's life if it is unconditional and without logic, pure and simple.
Spiritual love: Love and respect for the master who reveals the purpose of life.
Causeless love: Loving somebody without any purpose. Serving selflessly, to one and all in the same fashion (helping / service love) - helping others for no reasons. Compassion is causeless love.
Assessment:
- Which is your favorite pet animal?
- What are the ways you express the love to others?
- What is causeless love? Have you experienced it?
- How would you feel when a new student joins your class? What would you do?
- How would you feel when you are alone in a new place and somebody smiles at you?
