ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE
We always experience ourselves as moving characters in an unmoving world.
We feel that we are changing, transient, while the objective reality appears solid and unchanging. That is why we always give more importance to the outer reality than to the inner reality.
This technique reverses our perception, helping us glimpse that actually it is the seen which changes, while the seer remains unchanged.
DURATION: Not applicable
Whenever you are in state of movement, visualize that it is the outer world which moves, while your body remains fixed in its place.
For instance, when you are walking, feel that the scenes you see are moving past you, while you are just standing in the same place!
Everyone has experienced the illusion of relative movement: when you are in a vehicle, looking out at another vehicle, you cannot make out which of the vehicles is actually in motion!
In the same way, when you are moving, feel that your own movement is only an illusion, and it is the world around which is actually moving.
Just trying to experience this can jolt you out of your routine state of consciousness. Suddenly, you glimpse the relative nature of whatever you thought of as absolute.
Just the shock of this perception is enough to turn your awareness directly inwards.
Then you see that there really is a witnessing consciousness inside, that remains still and unchanged, even while your body goes through its motions and actions.
When this understanding penetrates you, you remain centered as this witnessing consciousness, even when your body and mind are engaged in action.
