Love of God - God of Love

A Poojarini wished to offer a special pooja to her God with 108 rare flowers. Early in the morning she went out to the garden to collect the best and rare flowers. All the flowers were beautiful and colorful. But she could not select even one flower, because all were very common. She searched in far away gardens, but could not find any. She went into the forest. There were a large variety of flowers, but were wild and pale. She searched on the banks of rivers and lakes; went into the valleys and islands. But she failed in getting at least one special flower for pooja (worship).

It was evening and she became very tired. With great sorrow and depression, she sat under a tree with empty hands and heavy heart, cursing her inability. Tears were rolling down her cheeks uncontrollably.

One senior monk from the nearby ashram was passing through the way where the Poojarini was sitting in deep sorrow. He walked towards her and said, "Oh! Daughter! What happened to you? You are looking very sad. What is your problem?"

The Poojarini slowly opened her eyes and looked at him with tears. She explained her fruitless efforts and cried. After a while she questioned, "Swamy! Can't I get the best flowers to offer a special pooja to my God?"

The monk replied, "Daughter! You are blessed; you got an idea of offering special pooja to your God. There is a wonderful and very rare flower to offer to your Lord."

The Poojarini asked quickly, "Where is it? And where is that?" He said, "The flower is in you. It is your heart (Bhakti) and your Buddhi (Jnanam)".

"Swami! I wanted 108 flowers to do Ashtothara Setha Namavali Pooja. I need 108 flowers, how to get them? " asked innocent Poojarini.

The monk replied with an affectionate smile, "If you use your (Bhakthi) devotion and wisdom (Jananam) you can create 108 wonderful flowers (Divya Pushpalu) which are ever fresh with divine fragrance. They never become dry and nobody can destroy them."

She was much excited and questioned him, "Swamy! I wanted exactly the same type of flowers. Tell me how I can get them" The monk said, "Your experiences with your Master can be the flowers. Add beauty and color with your language and pour fragrance of your skills. Using all your talents write 108 poems, songs, stories, bhajans, prayers etc. Each one is a Divine Flower (Divya Pushpam). Offer them to your God with 108 names."

He gave some examples, clarified her doubts and encouraged her to start writing. Thrilled with excitement she touched the feet of the monk and took his blessings. Next morning she sat under a tree on the banks of sarovaram to prepare 108 Divya Pushpalu to offer to her beloved God.
