Inner Awakening® Increases Longevity - Scientific Evidence Revealed Article by Dr. Krishna
All living organisms undergo the process of birth, growth, reproduction, maturation and death. The lifespan of an individual is determined by many factors. At one point of time, ageing was postulated to be programmed and hence predetermined and not changeable.
Current scientific research across the world on several species has led to the formation of new theories, which say that the ageing process can be delayed along with an increase in health and quality of life.
Between 2010 and 2014, four distinct, but undoubtedly interlinked studies were conducted on the Inner
Awakening® (IA) participants during their 21-days process of yoga, meditation, completion and energy darshan.
Mitochondria Study
The first study was conducted on 20 Inner Awakening® participants above 50 years of age against a non-Inner Awakening control group of another 20 participants. The quantitative assay of mitochondrial activity was performed
using the MTT assay technique. Blood samples were taken of the Inner awakening program on day 0, and day 20 from all volunteers. The results demonstrated that, there was a statistically significant increase (more than 1000 percent), in mitochondrial activity and cell viability in the study group.
The mitochondria are like the batteries or energy producers for the individual cells. They are responsible for producing the energy to maintain all the living
Gene Expression Study
activities of each and every cell. Standard methods of exercise and allopathic drugs can improve mitochondrial activity by around 30%. The mitochondria is susceptible to damage, and a damaged mitochondria will lead to cell damage and ageing, eventually leading to death. The mitochondria have been directly implicated in the ageing process of the human being.
Hindu beings have about 25,000 genes of which, about 10,000 are expressed at any given time. Genes control almost all the programs of the cell from production of protein to reproduction. Depending on environmental or epigenetic factors, genes can either be expressed or suppressed, which in medical parlance is known as up-regulation or down-regulation. Currently, a lot is known about the role of individual genes and the pathways of activity they enhance or inhibit, based on what group of genes are expressed or down-regulated at any given moment of time.
In this study, 40 samples were taken from the peripheral blood and pooled into 4 groups and, using affimetrix microchip, peripheral leucocytes were studied for their gene expression on day 0 and day 21, during the Inner Awakening® program.
The results showed that 420 genes were up-regulated and 165 genes down-regulated at the end of the study. Gene ontology studies, using currently available databases showed, significant two-fold changes with regard to autoimmunity, neurotransmitters, cancer and stem cells.
Quantitative Stem Cell Analysis
Stem cells are niche cells, which theoretically are immortal, until they decide to differentiate (specialize) after which they have a limited lifespan based on the number of cell divisions that can happen without damage.
As an embryo, we have a large bank of pluripotent stem cells, which significantly reduce in number in adulthood, into multi-potent stem cells. 100 blood samples taken from Inner Awakening® participants were processed for quantitative presence of stem cells in the peripheral blood.
Data was compared between day 0 and day 21 samples. Statistically, cell count increased significantly post IA, with a P value, P less than 0.001. This demonstrates a significant increase in stem cell population in 21 days.
Stem cell population is linked directly to ageing and was published in the journal of clinical medicine in Jan 2014.
Telomerase Study
Telomeres are like end caps protecting the chromosomes which contain DNA, the genetic material of the individual organism. Telomeres shorten over a period of time and their absence leads to ageing and death. The enzyme responsible for maintaining the telomere length is called telomerase. Normal adults have negligible telomerase activity, and therefore have a very limited lifespan.
The TDA test was performed on 100 participants on the peripheral blood cells on day 0 and day 21 on Inner Awakening® participants. Fold changes were measured at the end of the program. All the participants showed at least a 0.5 fold change (times 2 change), with 47 participants showing between 1.5 to 2 fold change (times 3 to times 4 change). The mean change was from 0.68 to 1.3 for the entire group. Current medical evidence suggests that, one needs at least 4- 5 months to detect significant change in telomerase activity or telomere
Summary
Current medical evidence suggests that mitochondria, stem cells, emotions, and telomerase activity are directly linked to the ageing process. Current medical therapy is aimed at pharmacological correction of the same. The first direct evidence of non-pharmacological enhancement of mitochondria, stem cells, by changing gene expression pathways, correcting the adverse impact of incompletion through the completion process from a single 21-day program has been demonstrated through structured studies over 4 years.
Conclusion
Immortality of the body is not in the plan of the Cosmos. However, it is clear that it is possible to increase the lifespan of an individual with good health and fitness, through appropriate processes, based on our ancient Shastras (sacred scriptures).
