Introduction and Meditation
The third layer is the manomaya kosha – the mental layer. It is the layer where your constant inner chatter goes on inside you. The inner chatter is nothing but the constant formation of words that happen in you, that don't bear any significance to anything. It is just a flow of words to do with irrelevant association of things, that's all. This constant flow is what we call 'worry'. If one person, who does not have a clean manomaya kosha, that is, if he is disturbed in the mind, sits as a leader, he can ruin the entire place where he is sitting.
The manomaya kosha is the centre of all the five koshas. Not only is it in the middle as we know it, but even otherwise, this manomaya kosha can be called as a base of all the five koshas.
From manomaya, you can penetrate or work on all the other four koshas. Among the seven chakras, the ajna chakra is the chakra raja or the king of all chakras. In the seven layers, the nirvanic layer is considered to be the ultimate. In the same way, in the five koshas, the manomaya kosha is the ultimate one, not even the anandamaya or bliss layer. This is because, after the manomaya, things are involuntary and not under your control. Whatever you can do, you can do it only up to the manomaya.
We will work on this manomaya step by step. It will be a longer process than for the first two layers. The meditation process for the manomaya kosha itself is very simple. It is actually just humming. Intense humming itself will break the inner chatter.
When you hum, put your complete awareness on the humming. It helps you to silence the mind. Our inner chatter is created around the navel area. When we hum intensely, such that we feel the vibration of the humming right below our navel, we stop this process of continuous inner chatter. It is like shaking the whole thing up. So the humming should happen from below the navel.
Humming lets you feel your body as energy. The moment you start humming, you start feeling light, as if you are floating. You don't feel the heaviness in the body, because humming matches the vibrations of the mind with the vibrations of the body. Body and mind become harmonious. You start experiencing yourself as energy.
But you have to start at the annamaya kosha to enter into the manomaya kosha! It means that we have to start from square one. So now, you have to go through all the meditations you did earlier, because you slept last night. When I say you slept, I mean that you have fallen below the vignanamaya kosha, between the vigyanamaya and anandamaya koshas. So now, you can't directly touch the manomaya. You have to go through the two layers, that is: the physical layer and the breath layer, and only then touch the mental layer. Let me explain why you need to do this. You see, the humming that you will do as the
manomaya kosha meditation, as I said, will shake your inner chattering in the mental layer. Intense humming will completely clean your inner chattering. That is enough to work on your manomaya kosha. But now, if you directly do it, you won't be able to penetrate your manomaya kosha as deeply as we want to. In order to touch and penetrate it deeply, we have to work a little on the earlier two layers that are the annamaya and pranamaya layers also. Once you go deeply into these two layers, automatically the humming will do its work on the manomaya kosha directly.
So, start with the annamaya. Again, you will get into the animal body. Don't think that there is not much left inside you, after the earlier animal body meditation. There will be a lot inside you. Don't miss today's sessions. If you think there is nothing inside you, that there are no fear or lust samskaras, then come and sit here. This is the seat for you. You are enlightened!
Choose any one animal. You may choose the same animal as you chose the previous time or a different animal. Live in the same way, with the same fear and greed. Express the same feelings. Do not miss this time. Become that animal completely. Let the animal engrams heal intensely. Let them get cleansed. If you are not opening up and bringing out the engrams, you are lazy. At least be a buffalo in the animal body meditation!
We will go through the same process now. Next, we will do the pranamaya kosha meditation – that is bringing your awareness to all the five pranic flow processes. Then, we will do the manomaya kosha technique - intense humming. When you hum, your mouth should be closed. Your whole body should vibrate with the humming.
I will guide you, and help you go through the whole process.
In the end, we will just sit for a few minutes for reprogramming, or entering into your manomaya kosha with an enlightened consciousness, for the Upanishad to happen!
Please make room for the zoo! Later, I will answer the remaining questions.
Meditation ends.
