The real source of pleasure

18 February, 2011

Understand the basic truth about pleasure:

The object of the pleasure is not responsible for the pleasure. The pleasure is not coming to you from the object. It is because of your awareness rushing towards that sense intensely that you experience the excitement, not because of the object coming in contact with that sense. The awareness which is coming from your ananda gandha and hitting your senses gives the excitement and pleasure, not the object which is coming in contact with the senses.

You jump on the senses so violently, so aggressively, not realizing that it is the awareness which is coming from your own center, the ananda gandha, and hitting your senses which is giving you that excitement and pleasure - not the object which is coming in contact with the senses.

When you are eating your favorite sweet, say laddoos, you will feel intense pleasure on the tongue. But the pleasure is not coming from the laddoos! You will feel the pleasure when you are eating the first two or three laddoos, but after the sixth or seventh one, you will say, I think I am done now. After the tenth one, you will say No, no, no, I have had enough! At the 12th one, you feel like running away, escaping. If the

object is responsible for the sense pleasure, why then is it not adding to the joy when more and more is added?

Same thing with listening. You can listen to a few songs for half an hour, but if the same songs are repeated, after two hours you will feel - no, it is enough. After three hours, it becomes a torture. Sometimes, the first half hour itself is a torture! Same way with seeing a scene: after a few minutes, you feel, Now let's see something else.

For any sense experience, if the object is responsible for the pleasure, why is it that when more and more is added, the pleasure does not continue to increase? It is because of your awareness rushing towards that sense intensely that you experience the excitement, not because of the object coming in contact with that sense.

The constant need for change is required because the object is not responsible for the pleasure in the senses. If you imbibe and inculcate this understanding, much of your greed, need and fears related to the senses will disappear. You become liberated from the senses, indriya vimukta. You become the Master of your senses. Actually when you imbibe this understanding and grind it inside you, so many doors will open and so many understandings will happen.

The kundalini is awakened in a man who lives with a broad complete understanding about his senses. His mitochondria cell energy goes up heavily, he becomes a strong energetic person and has the complete freedom to enjoy the senses intensely or leave intensely. He can live or leave.

Please understand, if you have the narrow understanding, your kundalini gets suppressed, your mitochondria energy level will be low, and you will neither have the power to enjoy, but you will be tortured by the tremendous violent need to enjoy, which leads to frustration, impotence and everything. It is called vicious circle. We call it taittiriya retas in Sanskrit.

If you have the broad

understanding about the senses, your very thinking will be different. Your senses will not be running towards the superficial sense objects. Broad understanding, complete and right understanding, means understanding that it is because of your awareness rushing towards that sense intensely that you experience the excitement, not because of the object coming in contact with that sense. This is called urdhva retas in Sanskrit*,* which means that your entire energy will be flowing upward.

Sit with closed eyes and imbibe and grind this truth into your inner space and being.
