Suffering can become an addiction 28 October, 2010
Researchers at the University of California in the USA report that long term or complicated grief activates neurons in the reward centers of the brain, possibly giving these memories addiction-like properties.
I always tell people, suffering becomes almost an addiction over the years. People are very happy with it. Without that, they feel something is missing. This is what I call 'mature pain body.' It means that the pain body is so overgrown that it now has its own independent intelligence to reproduce constantly. Once the physical body is mature, it has the capacity
Catching the pain body, and taking care that it does not become more and more mature, is a very important step. If the engraved memories are left without cleaning and removing them, the suffering will slowly become like an addiction.
It is a very revealing discovery. It means, you will start feeling very comfortable with the painful memories, and you will even start enjoying a kind of juicy feeling, with those memories. This is very dangerous. It not only becomes a lifestyle, but your brain starts believing that as a juice of the life. That itself is the worst samskara, the worst engram. The moment you encourage the pain body in you, meaning the samskaras, they occupy you completely.
People who feel suffering is the juicy part of life are called rakshasas. They go on hurting somebody or hurting themselves, so that they can have something juicy in their life. So never encourage the growth of the pain body in you. Say NO to suffering!
