ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE

In the earlier technique, you saw how pain can be dissolved simply by focusing your attention on it.

Here we go a step further.

In this technique, you understand experientially that there is no such thing as pain!

Actually, there is no definite sensation called pain!

It is our mind that labels one sensation as pain and another as pleasure.

Just try this experiment.

Close your eyes and concentrate on your tongue. Visualize yourself walking on your tongue!

As you walk, take a chili in one hand, a candy in the other. With total awareness, apply the chili to one side of your tongue and the candy to the other side.

You will see, your tongue will register both the sensations as the same!

Both chili and candy create the same sensation on your tongue. It is only you who labels one as hot and the other as sweet.

Before you name it, the experience itself is the same. It becomes pain or bliss only after you name it.

When you don't label the experience, it is called life. After you label it, it becomes pain or bliss. Let us drop our labels of pain or bliss and experience life as it is.

DURATION: 21 min

Close your eyes and sit comfortably. If possible, sit in a dark room or blindfold yourself. Focus intensely on the part of the body that has pain. As you focus, deliberately drop the word 'pain' from your mind.

Do not repeat the word pain, pain, pain in your mind as you usually do! Do not allow the word pain in your mind. Your mental chatter will continue to tell you that you have pain. Turn it off. Feel the area of pain deeply. Just look into it with an open mind, with the curiosity of a child. Look at your pain without any idea about it, as if it were a sensation you are encountering for the first time in your life!

Completely turn off any word that is arising in your mind. Understand, without using words, you will be unable to label the sensation in that area as 'pain'.

Suddenly, you will find that the very same sensation is now being experienced as bliss! When you infuse consciousness, the pain becomes a flood of bliss.

Only then do you understand that pain and bliss are one and the same – the difference is only in your perception.

With just a simple shift in perception, you can heal yourself of even chronic pains.

The moment you understand that you are creating the pain, you can liberate yourself from it.
