Intense looking
INSTRUCTIONS
Look at things without bringing in any words.
Pure awareness is meditation.
When you are looking at a flower, just look.
Do not verbalize the experience. Don't say, even to yourself, 'What a beautiful rose!'
Just see, being fully aware. That is really looking at the rose. Only then you can truly relate with the rose. Only then the rose reveals its reality to you.
When you are silent, you give the other a chance to speak to you.
Look at the moon in the night sky.
Drink in the moon.
Just watch, don't think how beautiful it is!
The moment you bring in words, you have created the gap;
you have slipped out of meditation.
Just enter into the experience.
Become the experience.

ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE
Meditation on void or emptiness is a direct way to contact the consciousness that is beyond the reach of the senses and mind. When the mind dwells on a vast vacant space outside, without the support of a concrete object, thoughts can no longer arise. Because the mind has nothing to hold on to, it loses definition and is absorbed in the void.
Meditation on the sky is meditation on emptiness. The clear blue sky is intensely empty. To meditate on it is to dissolve into it.
INSTRUCTIONS
Choose a day when the sky is clear blue, cloudless and vast.
In a quiet place, simply lie on your back and start looking at the sky.
Don't blink – even if your eyes begin to water. Just keep staring. Your eyes will begin to hurt; ignore the pain. Once the tears have cleansed your eyes, it will become easier to stare.
Don't start thinking about the sky! Don't start thinking about how wonderful and blue the sky is looking. The moment you start thinking about it, you separate yourself from the sky.
Your job is not to think about the sky, but simply to enter into the sky.
Just by looking, feel the clarity of the sky. Be aware of the purity of the blue sky. Enter into that clarity. Move deep into the sky. Go on looking deeper and deeper into the sky, as if you are looking for something further and further in its depth.
Because you are entering into emptiness, this may be frightening for some. To really be able to feel comfortable with emptiness, the one who is seeing it has to dissolve. You have to become the sky.
It may take an hour or more. Don't stop, don't let your attention wander. Don't take your eyes off the sky.
Keep on looking, till you become one with the sky. Not till you think you have become one with it! When you have become one with it, you will know for yourself. Your body begins to dissolve, your thoughts fall away.
At one moment, suddenly you will see that there is no body, no thought.
Only the sky remains, inside and outside.
Remain in that boundless sky as emptiness in emptiness, as consciousness in consciousness.
