Meditation Is for You

ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE

This technique is an excellent way to conserve and balance your energy flow.

We don't realize how much energy is continuously flowing out through each of our senses. Even when you simply look at an object, your energy automatically flows towards that object. Similarly with words. You can lose a lot of energy by speaking, or even listening to and trying to digest some information.

That is why pratyahara, withdrawal of the senses, is considered essential for meditators.

Actually, pratyahara does not mean withdrawal of the senses, it means withdrawal from the senses. Externally, you can allow your senses to function normally. But if you simply withdraw your mind from the process, if you don't allow your mind to chase the object, your energy doesn't flow towards it.

Not only external objects, even internal objects are also constantly consuming our energy. If you close your eyes, the outer scenes may cease and the energy may stop flowing out. But even then, inside you, some scenes will be moving and so the energy will continue to be wasted. As I always say, attention is energy. So whatever your mind is preoccupied with, externally or internally, it can simply suck all your energy.

Only if you can put a stop to both the inner and outer scenes can you experience enlightenment!

In this technique, we bring our awareness to the energy flowing out from our eyes. When we become aware of this, we can close the energy circuit and generate a powerful cycle of energy within us.

This techniques can help awaken the kundalinishakti, the tremendous potential energy which you carry within you. It is also a beautiful technique to develop sensitivity in the body.

DURATION: 30min

Close your eyes lightly.

Gently touch your eyelids with your forefingers, as lightly as a feather would.

You can use a real feather also, if you like. The feather should not bend when touching the eye. If it bends, it means you are applying too much pressure on the eyelids. Too much pressure will not work with this technique. You need to give just a feather-touch.

It is as if you are touching, but not touching. Your fingers are on the eyelids, but not pressing them. Your hands are on the eyelids, but not pressing them. Your hands may tremble at first and you may touch either too heavily or too lightly, or you may not be touching your eyelids at all. Balance your hands and create just the right pressure.

When you touch your eyelids in this way, you will see a strong energy connection getting established between your fingers and eyes. Slowly, you will feel that your fingers and hands have become a part of your eyes.

As of now, when you close your eyes, you feel that your boundary ends inside the eyelids. But with this feather touch, your eyes will feel like they have expanded! If the pressure you apply is just right, you will have this experience. You experience the same sensitivity outside your eyes that you normally feel inside.

Once you start practicing this technique intensely, you will see that the energy starts circulating inside you, instead of leaving you through your eyes as it normally does. An internal current is set up in your system, which rejuvenate your whole body.

It takes about half an hour at the first try to experience this internal energy circle. Within a month of daily practice, you will be able to effortlessly set up this cycle and balance your energies.
