Raise yourself by yourself

Wed August 29, 2012

In the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavan Krishna says – Uddhared-aatmana-aatmaanam na-aatmaanam-avasaadayet I have to raise myself by myself

Aatmaiva hyaatmano bandhuhu-aatmaiva ripuraatmanaha You are the greatest friend of yourself, and you are the greatest enemy of yourself

If I am asked to pick up only one verse as the essence of the whole Bhagavad Gita, I will say this is the verse! Just for this one verse, Krishna is worthy of being worshipped as Bhagavan. Everything else he has given is a bonus. In this one verse, he has proven that he is God. Never in this precise way can such a powerful tool to enlightenment be given!

Whenever you have a low mood, whenever you deviate from the path, it is you who needs to raise yourself by yourself. If you raise yourself, you are the greatest friend of yourself. If you deceive yourself, you are the worst enemy of yourself. Raise yourself by yourself, so you will be your greatest friend.

Be sensitive to every action you are doing, every attitude you are building, every thought you are having. Every thought you have, every word you utter, every action you do adds up. They are moving you either towards your mission or away from your mission. Don't think that if you don't progress, you are in the neutral gear. No! Either you clutch and go forward, or you clutch and go in the reverse, or you are unclutched! There is no neutral gear in life; it is always either forward gear or reverse gear.

Only you have to raise yourself by yourself. Don't depend on your friends whom you think have more understanding than yourself. They may be having understanding in some subjects, but not in all. In some other subject they may not be having the complete understanding. So when you look up to them in everything, you are doomed.

Don't let yourself down by yourself. Atma, your Self, can be your friend or your enemy! It is you who needs to decide whether to raise yourself or let yourself down.
