MANDALA MEDITATION TECHNIQUES (for groups)
The word mandala simply means 'circle' in Sanskrit – but a mandala is far more than a simple shape! It is a cosmic diagram that represents wholeness or completeness, because the circle is the basic pattern of the universe itself.
We are all part of the intricate design of creation. The mandala appears in all aspects of our life - the celestial circles (planetary systems and galaxies), the time circles (the seasons, the life cycle of birth and death and evolution) as well as conceptual circles (family, community and religion).
The universe is designed like a hologram, where every part is a complete representation of the whole. The mandala represents both the microcosm (part) and the macrocosm (whole). It symbolizes our relation to the infinite, which exists both beyond and within us.
We are intimately related with each and every being and energy and movement in the cosmos.
Every moment, we are exchanging energies with one another, with our immediate environment and with the universe.
We all experience this interchange of energies, but usually in an unconscious way.
For instance, when you enter a room full of strangers, or a room full of friends, you can easily tell the difference, even if you are blindfolded!
When you are feeling angry, anxious or sad, you get a shrinking feeling. When a person is feeling hostile towards you, you can sense his energy shrinking away from yours.
On the other hand, when you meet a beloved person, both of you may feel as if you are flowing towards each other!
At the level of thoughts and emotions, we are continuously contacting and influencing one another.
But because our attention is always on the overt words and actions of the other, this subtle interchange of energies goes unnoticed.
In mandala meditations, we consciously enter into this cosmic current, for sharing spiritual energies and raising the group consciousness through meditation.
